Space Haven is a construction simulator in which we build and expand our spaceship, creating a new home for our small crew. With the ship, you can then explore a variety of star systems, mess with pirates and aliens, and trade. And that's a lot of fun!

You shouldn't be put off by the 90's pixelated look of the game. Space Haven is not one of those polished games with realistic graphics. Behind the game is Bugbyte, a small indie games studio from Finland with only three developers. More important than the packaging, however, is the content, and that is quite impressive.

Man has ruined the Earth and then finished it off with a nuclear war. The delicate blue planet is no longer inhabitable. We find ourselves on a life plank drifting in space, a spaceship without propulsion, armament, or shields. Our small crew consists of four randomly thrown together with people, all of whom have no idea about space travel. They can be a farmer, a geologist, a telemarketer, a policewoman, or anything else.

We can't steer the ship (the ship's hull would be too unstable for flight), but at least there are some resources on board, with which we can build up the most necessary equipment on the still rather empty ship. Little by little, our ship gets a structure through new rooms, we can grow food in raised beds and eventually the ship becomes airworthy again.

Now we can take off in the truest sense of the word - lots of star systems are waiting to be explored. But beware - there are also pirates! And they shoot on sight (unless you are superior). You will also meet other ships belonging to different factions, with whom you can usually trade.

Random events also add variety to the Space Haven routine, such as accidents or fights with pirates.

Also, we're excited to see what's to come - what if at some point we can't find any more hyper fuel or water? Would we trade, and if so, for how long? Or do we start a fight and become a pirate?

The many possibilities that exist are so much fun to continue playing for many more hours.
